A man has been killed following a shooting incident on the M1 Higginson Highway in the Marianhill area outside Pinetown on Saturday afternoon.

ALS Paramedics confirmed that they responded to the scene shortly before 3pm after reports of a shooting at the intersection of Milkyway Robots in the Marianhill area.

“Just before 3pm on Saturday afternoon ALS Paramedics responded to a shooting incident on the M1 Higginson Highway at the intersection of Milkyway Robots in the Marianhill area just outside Pinetown.”

Paramedics said they arrived on the scene alongside Emergency Medical Services (EMRS) personnel, where South African Police Service (SAPS) members had already secured the area around a luxury vehicle.

According to ALS Paramedics, medics were directed to the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a male believed to be in his forties, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite efforts by paramedics to aid the victim, he was declared dead at the scene.

Metro Police closed the roadway while investigations were conducted.

At this stage, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unknown, with SAPS expected to investigate further.

Meanwhile, IOL previously reported that a separate shooting incident in Chatsworth, south of Durban on Friday, left another man dead after he was initially airlifted to hospital.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the victim had been critically injured in what was believed to be a hijacking in the Bayview area.

“Unfortunately, the gentleman passed away due to his injuries sustained,” Jamieson said.

Jamieson added that the man, believed to be in his early 40s, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.

“Due to the severity of the man’s injuries a decision was made to call in the Netcare911 Aeromedical Helicopter for the rapid transportation to a level 1 hospital for the urgent care that the patient required,” he said.

Details surrounding both shootings remain unclear, and police investigations are ongoing.
