Sibusiso “Mash” Mashiloane got day two of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) started with an electrifying set at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Saturday, March 28.
Taking to the intimate Rosies stage, the acclaimed pianist and composer’s soulful sounds resonated with the crowd, you were serenaded by his every word.
Mashiloane’s set unfolded like a deeply personal conversation between artist and audience, each note carrying both warmth and intention. With quiet confidence, he blended rich jazz improvisation with the unmistakable textures of South African musical heritage. His performance moved effortlessly between meditative, slow-burning moments and exhilarating bursts of rhythmic intensity, keeping the room completely immersed.
It was the kind of performance that reminded festivalgoers why the Cape Town International Jazz Festival remains such a vital cultural moment: intimate, world-class, and profoundly moving.
Elsewhere on night two of “Africa’s Grandest Gathering”, the Mother City’s very own DJ Sio got the start on the Manenberg stage, with Fatoumata Diawara and Giuliette Price also expected to perform earlier on Saturday night.
The rest of the night also promises some spectacular global stars and local acts expected to rock the stage, with India’s Varijashree Venugopal, the US’s Sheila E. & The E‑Train, Nubiyan Twist (UK collective) and Igor Butman & Moscow Jazz Orchestra expected to perform.
SA’s Tutu Poane, Camissa Knights and Jimmy Nevis will also perform during night two.
Last night was a spectacular evening of music, connection and community as the likes of 7-times Grammy Award-winning artist Jacob Collier closed off the festival with a magical set.
Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, lordkez, Yellowjackets and Rorisang Sechele also delivered spectacular performances.
