Snoop Dogg is taking a big step towards inclusivity in children’s entertainment.
The legendary rapper has shared that he’s become more comfortable with showing gay couples in children’s movies, even adding them into his own animated series, “Doggyland”.
Dogg teamed up with GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), an NGO that supports LGBTQ youth and spoke to “The Voice” contestant Jeremy Beloate about why kids need to see all types of families as special.
The “Young, Wild & Free” hitmaker said: “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love … Love has no bounds”.
In “Doggyland“, he introduced a song called “Love Is Love”, which captures this message.
The lyrics say: “Our parents are different. No two are the same, but the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change.”
As pups sing this catchy tune, we also see families with two dads and two moms having fun together.
Dogg shared: “It’s teaching parenthood. It’s teaching situations that kids in the world are going through right now in a beautiful way through song, dance, melody, just trying to get more clarity on how we live and the way we live.”
This wasn’t always Dogg’s perspective. Back in August, he shared an experience he had while taking his grandchildren to see the movie “Lightyear”.
After witnessing a scene where two women kissed and raised a child together, his grandkids were bombarding him with questions like, “How can a woman have a baby with another woman?”
He explained that it threw him for a “loop” and made him a bit scared to go to the movies again.
Now, Dogg is flipping the script, and he hopes “Doggyland” will help children learn that love comes in many forms.
The series aims to answer kids’ questions and help them understand that love is love, no matter who you are or who you love.
“It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is,” said Dogg.
He hopes his animated series will help kids answer tough questions about family diversity and lead them to live happy lives full of love.
