Following the revelation that actress Sophie Turner, while underage, was given scripts for Game of Thrones containing mature content, concerns about Hollywood casting practices and questions regarding parental oversight have surfaced on X.
At just 13, British actress Sophie Turner was cast as Sansa Stark in the popular HBO fantasy series, “Game of Thrones”. Now 29, she recently revisited how being on the set of the hit drama served as her “Sex Education”.
“I definitely got my sex education from that show,” Turner previously joked on an episode of the “Dish” podcast, adding, “More than enough”.
While this comment was made years ago, it has recently resurfaced, sparking public concern and criticism about the protection of child actors.
The series is known for its frequent and graphic sexual content, which includes orgies, incest, and, in earlier seasons, “sexposition” (extended dialogue taking place during sexual acts). Extensive nudity, often non-consensual, is a common feature. Although the explicit sexual material lessens in later seasons, it continues to be a notable aspect of the show.
Sophie Turner, at 13, learned about oral sex while reading the script, even though her character wasn’t involved in sex scenes in the initial seasons. She recalled her surprise: “The first time I ever found out about oral sex was from reading the script. I was 13. I was like … Wow! People do that? That’s fascinating.”
Throughout her time on the show, Turner was involved in several disturbing scenes, including violent ones, while she was still underage. For example, she acted out a scene where Joffrey Lannister, who frequently tormented her, ordered his guard to strip and beat her.
A particularly controversial scene occurred when she was 19: her character was sexually assaulted by Ramsay Bolton immediately following their marriage.
Concerns are mounting over the protection of young actors in major productions, particularly a 13-year-old being exposed to explicit sexual content via an adult-oriented professional script.

A 13-year-old being introduced to explicit sexual content through a professional script meant for adults raises serious questions about how young actors are protected on major productions. No minor should have to navigate mature material like that without strong safeguards and guidance in place.”
Other social media users echoed this alarm. Guyver II stated, “This literally counts as child grooming. Hollywood is nothing but pedophiles.”
