As Kaizer Chiefs prepare to take on the mighty Mamelodi Sundowns in their Nedbank Cup semi on Sunday, former Bafana Bafana and Brazilians midfielder Teko Modise does not want to see the AmaKhosi in the final.

It’s no surprise really, as Modise, who played both for Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in his career, but never Chiefs, revealed where his allegiances lie.

Pirates will be in action in the other cup semi-final on Sunday, as they take on Marumo Gallants at Orlando Stadium.

Chiefs, meanwhile, will try to cause a massive upset against Sundowns on their home turf at Loftus Versfeld.

Exciting rematch anticipated: Pirates vs Sundowns showdown in Nedbank Cup final?

Of course, last season Pirates beat Sundowns in the final, and Modise said seeing that clash again for the trophy would be the most pleasing result.

“I would like to see the repeat of last season’s Nedbank Cup final with Pirates and Sundowns because that’s one of the fixtures as well that has become the epitome of South African football,” Modise told iDiski Times.

“We have both teams [Pirates and Sundowns] competing in CAF semi-finals, you know being in an advantageous position as they are.”

Brushing aside the ability of Chiefs, who are currently eighth in the Betway Premiership, while Pirates and Sundowns compete for the league title, Modise said: “These are big teams right now, the best teams right now in South Africa. So, I want to see them in the final again. I think that’s the blockbuster fixture that every fan will be excited to see.

“And also there are equally good players on both sides. I think they can cancel each other out and I think they can give us an exceptional final like they did last season.”
