South African influencer Nthabiseng Mopi, known as Pinkfur, has been making waves on X for pursuing her musical aspirations. However, she is also facing criticism for her handling of social media disputes.
The influencer has dropped a new song, “I’m back,” featuring rising artist Priddy Prince and featuring visuals reminiscent of classic Nigerian R&B, released 4 days ago on YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify.
Pinkfur, an artist recently noted by many observers as having the potential to become South Africa’s answer to Tyla, has released a new track. This follows her two earlier releases, “Baby Fever” and “Make It Rain.”
Pinkfur’s account was banned after she was linked to a controversial Russian programme, which she actively promoted as an influencer. This program allegedly involved the human trafficking of teenagers.
This case involved a few other South African social media influencers, including Cyan Boujee, Peachy Sprinkles, Ghost Hlubi, S’bongile Kajane and Zillewizzy, who shared promotional videos about the programme.
Further complicating matters, she was purportedly identified as the head of this Russian human trafficking operation. When confronted with these serious claims, Pinkfur responded by insisting that the girls involved were “doing fine” and denied forcing anyone to participate.
The media remains aware that her handling of such situations could alienate public support, regardless of her inherent potential.
One X user, @random_ahh_usee, commented: “Her only problem is she thinks she’s clever, if she wants to go global, she needs heavy media training bcuz the way she handled the alabuga situation still has ppl pissed off.”
Conversely, a TikTok user named Candyflosstigre offered support, stating, “I don’t care, but this ate. Let her try something new, guys. We all start somewhere 💕”
Her engagement with fans and response to social media controversies could either propel her career or lead to its decline, prompting fans to urge a change in her approach.
The impact of these events is clear in her digital presence: following the ban of her main account, which boasted over two million followers, her new account has only attracted 274.4k followers. Furthermore, her new song “I’m back” currently stands at only 8,100 views on YouTube, 1352 streams on Spotify.
