Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse in Durban is abuzz with the glitz and glamour of the Hollywoodbets Durban July, perfectly capturing the essence of South African celebrity culture.
This year’s event, particularly marked by its impressive fashion statements and dazzling appearances, saw a host of Mzansi’s celebs turn out in full force, eager to enjoy one of the country’s premier horse racing extravaganzas.
Among the luminaries in attendance were renowned media personalities, influencers and some of the country’s most beloved entertainers, all eager to partake in the festivities.
The iconic horse racing event, often regarded as the highlight of the social calendar, saw stars such as Kwesta, “The Real Housewives of Durban” twins Ayanda Mthembu, Andile Pieterson and Gogo Skhotheni stepping out in jaw-dropping outfits that blended elegance with flair.
Mthembu and Pieterson, dressed by Nao Serati, said they were at the HDJ with Savanna and that the inspiration behind their “gold” outfits was that Mzansi is a country famous for gold.
When asked why they keep coming back, they said: “We’re lovers of fashion and every year is different.”
Skhotheni, who was a guest at the Omoda Marquee, dazzled in a black and gold ensemble.
“It’s my first time at the event, and with Omoda, you can never go wrong. The vibe is great, so im enjoying it.”
On her outfit, which was designed by Sihle Masango, she said: “The theme spoke about Mzansi, so I just chose the Ndelebe theme and it represents who I am – a queen,” she said.
“It’s the second time he has dressed me. The first was for my birthday. I am very happy that he understands the assignment all the time.”
As for the horse she’s betting on, Skhotheni said: “I’ve been looking at the horses, and I do want to bet, I’m just not sure on which ones yet. And I don’t want to guess wrong.”
Rapper Kwesta is a regular at the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
Award-winning rapper Kwesta, who showed up to the HDJ with his beautiful wife, Yolanda, said he keeps coming back to the event “for the fresh vibes”.
“I look forward to seeing the performances, and I’ll be performing as well. I like seeing all the brands with the nice marquees.”
As for his outfit, he said: “I was styled by Eric by Design – we went with Namacqua land, showing the flowers, the rock, the firewood, with the brown … You guys won’t give me my flowers, so I took them.”
“The theme this year was pretty dope. It was very South African, and I felt it represented us. It was also quite a challenge to dress for, but very representative of us as a country.”
Beyond the glamour and fashion, the HDJ featured thrilling races that kept attendees on the edge of their seats. Each horse bolted forth with determination, echoing the spirited energy of the audience, amplifying the stakes and excitement of the event.
