Stellenbosch FC have announced that the historic Danie Craven Stadium will be temporarily unavailable until the end of December due to major renovations being undertaken by Stellenbosch University.

The upgrades form part of preparations for the 2026 FISU World University Championship Rugby Sevens, a prestigious global tournament that will showcase elite university athletes from around the world.

As the stadium is owned and managed by Stellenbosch University, the decision to refurbish the iconic venue falls outside the jurisdiction of Stellenbosch FC. However, the club has expressed its full support for the redevelopment, recognising the long-term benefits it will bring to the local community and future sporting events in the region.

The temporary closure will see Stellies play their home fixtures at alternative venues, most notably Athlone Stadium and DHL Stadium, providing an opportunity to expand their reach within the Western Cape football community.

“This shift allows more supporters to experience the excitement of live football first-hand, while strengthening our connection with fans across the province,” the club said in a statement.

For season ticket holders, Stellenbosch FC have confirmed that all memberships will remain valid throughout the relocation period. These tickets will grant access to every home fixture staged at the alternative venues, ensuring that loyal supporters can continue to back their team without disruption.

The club added that it remains committed to transparent communication with its fanbase and will share further updates regarding the renovation timeline and the reopening of Danie Craven Stadium in due course.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary move may cause and would like to thank our supporters for their patience, understanding and unwavering backing during this transformative period,” the club said.
