Suspect arrested for student’s murder in Gqeberha

A 26-year-old man has been arrested by SAPS Humewood detectives for the alleged murder of a student in Gqeberha in the early hours of Sunday, 26 October 2025.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said that, according to preliminary reports, the suspect and the victim, aged 24, were involved in a fight inside student accommodation in Strand Street, Central, at about 04:00.

“Other students managed to break up the fight, and the injured student was taken to his room. He was later found unresponsive, and emergency services were summoned. The victim was declared dead at the scene,” said Janse van Rensburg.

She confirmed that the suspect had been arrested and detained on a charge of murder.

“The investigation is ongoing. The name of the deceased will be released once the formal identification process has been completed,” she added.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
