Table Mountain Cable Car set to undergo maintenance
The Table Mountain National Park says people should prepare for its cable car to be under routine maintenance between the 24th of July and the 7th of August. During this period the cable car up and down the mountain will not be available. However the Table Mountain National Park says hikers are still able to climb up the mountain if they are fit enough to climb back down again.
Gift of the Givers make arrangements to assist residents in Rawsonville
Gift of the Givers have made arrangements to assist more than 1,260 residents of an informal settlement in Rawsonville whose homes were damaged by recent flooding. The organisation says operations in the town begin today, which will see trucks be escorted from Cape Town through the Hugenoot Tunnel to Rawsonville, just outside of Worcester.
Drivers license card printing machine back up and running
South Africa’s driver’s license card printing machine has been fixed. This was announced by the Transport Department which said it would now double card production from 60,000 to 120,000 per week, following the recent maintenance repairs on the machine.
Local vulture undergoes first beak transplant
A local vulture has undergone what is believed the world’s first beak transplant. The bird was hit by a car in March suffering serious head injuries which caused blindness in its right eye. The surgery, which now allows the vulture to eat again was performed by a vet from the university of Pretoria.
