Actress and podcaster Tebogo Thobejane turned heads when she attended the start of the long-awaited trial of her ex-boyfriend, alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Matlala and his four co-accused pleaded not guilty to all 25 counts on the indictment, including attempted murder charges carrying life imprisonment.
Thobejane watched from the public gallery of the Johannesburg High Court, looking her finest.

“People can say whatever they want, but they’ll never walk in my shoes. I survived what many thought I would never would. My story didn’t end that day. It began.”
Matlala, for his latest court appearance, was dressed in a grey suit, white shirt and black tie. His wife and co-accused, Tsakani Matlala, wearing a brown blazer and designer glasses, sat beside him.

It is the state’s case that the accused orchestrated three separate hit plots between August 2022 and January 2024, targeting Taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, Thobejane and music producer Seunkie “DJ Vetteys” Mokubong.
Matlala, accused three, is on trial alongside alleged gunmen Musa Kekana, accused one, and Tiego Floyd Mabusela, accused two, his wife, accused four, and Nthabiseng Zandile Nzama, accused five.
The charges include conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, money laundering and fraud.
Kekana, Mabusela and Matlala are in custody, while Tsakani and Nzama are out on bail.
