Underestimating Kaizer Chiefs will be the biggest mistake Orlando Pirates can make this weekend, says former football star Teko Modise.

The two Soweto giants will go head-to-head at a sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in a second derby in as many weeks this weekend with the Nedbank Cup trophy on offer.

Ezimnyama ngenkani ezikamagebhula earned a well-deserved 2-1 win in last week’s league clash in Johannesburg, and have been installed as the heavy favourites to win the tournament for a third year running.

Kaizer Chiefs’ struggles throughout the campaign have also contributed to the odds being put heavily in Pirates’ favour.

But, Modise has urged Pirates to not make the mistake of thinking all they have to do to win the trophy is show up at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“Let’s not make the mistake of thinking that Kaizer Chiefs are coming to this match as the underdogs. That would be the biggest mistake for Orlando Pirates to think that Kaizer Chiefs are underdogs,” Modise said, according to Hollywoodbets Sports.

“Just because Orlando Pirates have been playing Caf (Champions League), Chiefs’ position on the log suggests that they are not better than Orlando Pirates. For all those factors that matter from a naked eye, this is not a game that relies on the naked eye.

Modise reckons a lot is at stake as Amakhosi amahle look for redemption in a dismal first season in charge for Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi, and to end a trophy drought that goes back a decade.

“It’s a game that might change fortunes for Kaizer Chiefs, to get better, bring back confidence, fans and joy. This is a game that means so much to Kaizer Chiefs than it does to Orlando Pirates. To play against a team like that is dangerous,” he said.
