In a somewhat bizarrely timed outburst, Kaizer Chiefs head of scouting and recruitment Tera Maliwa has slammed the club’s fans for unwarranted criticism of the Soweto Giants.
It’s certainly a good time to be a Chiefs fan at the moment as the side holds second spot in the Betway Premiership after five games.
However, the trophy cabinet of Chiefs has resembled a barren wasteland for some time as their first trophy in a decade finally came last season in the Nedbank Cup.
In that time, the players and staff have come and gone, but now there is growing respect for current coach Nasreddine Nabi and his team, or so there should be.
The big issues, according to Maliwa, are that fans are seldom happy with player signings. Some of the new signings Chiefs made this season are Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Siphesihle Ndlovu.

“Transfer windows have become not easy at all. It’s easy for fans calling for SD [sporting director] and scouts to be sacked because they didn’t make deadline day signings,” Maliwa said on social media.
“But panic signings can be a disaster that causes lasting damage. We need to consider strategy and ignore the noise.
“It’s easy to assume when you are over the fence and not 24/7 into the game. The SA market is 1/2 sided; it’s no longer the same.”
Ultimately, the hunger for more as a local football fan could never be satiated, it seems according to Maliwa.
“I think this is the right time to write my book. I’ve seen enough, enough hate.”
