The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has recalled the Jeep Wrangler and Chrysler 300C.
This comes after the NCC was notified about faults from Stellantis South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
The NCC’s spokesperson, Phetho Ntaba, said the supplier has recalled the vehicles due to defective Takata airbags.
“On the affected vehicles, the passenger airbag inflator may rupture during the airbag deployment phase. The rupturing of the airbag inflator may lead to metal fragments passing through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed. This may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants,” Ntaba said.
She also gave the year models of the Jeep Wrangler and Chrysler 300C.
“The affected vehicles were made available nationally between 2009 and 2013, and also exported to Namibia and Botswana,” Ntaba said.
Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised dealership. The necessary repair work will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.
