I know Easter weekend has already come and gone, but the internet clearly didn’t get the memo. A video from a staged performance at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul has resurfaced online, and it’s giving people a very unexpected laugh they didn’t ask for but are definitely enjoying.
During a planned “ascension” scene on April 4, the actor was lifted above Gwanghwamun Square as part of a dramatic Easter-themed production symbolising the biblical moment of Jesus rising to heaven.
What was meant to be a controlled, symbolic lift quickly turned into something far more chaotic when the machinery kept going beyond the intended height.
Instead of stopping at the planned mark, the actor continued to rise higher, floating well above the crowd of more than 8,000 spectators gathered for the event.
Cameras immediately caught the moment, with audiences unsure whether to laugh, applaud, or question whether this was still part of the script.
Social media did what it does best, turning the clip into instant comedy gold. Users flooded timelines with jokes about the “Korean Jesus that refused to descend,” while others dubbed it a divine upgrade nobody saw coming.
The moment quickly spread across platforms, with viewers replaying the unexpected ascent on loop. Forgive us.
We all know Easter content comes in many forms, but this one might take the crown for most unintentionally entertaining. And while the performance was clearly planned as symbolic theatre, the internet has once again proven that no serious moment is safe from becoming a meme.
At this point, churches and productions are going full production mode with sky-high staging, giving serious “Chris Brown dancing in the air above the crowd” vibes – when did ascension services start needing aviation clearance? How has it come to this?
Anyway, we are here for the LOL’s.
