It is a bittersweet moment for the Megacy.
Tony Forbes, the father of the late South African rap icon AKA, is stepping into the recording studio to honour his son’s legacy.
Working alongside artist Craig Lucas, Forbes is turning his grief into music, offering fans a rare and personal tribute to AKA.
Forbes recently took to Instagram to share his emotional motivation behind the project. He expressed how singing serves as a bridge between him and his son: “We’re gonna sing soon, boy… this is our song, I sing it for both us, I know you hear me, I’m still here, son, I’m carrying on until we sing our song 🎵.”
In a follow-up post, he admitted that while the process is therapeutic, he is leaning on the public for strength: “Singing for him is part of my healing. I am excited. But I need all the support. So I share with you.”
Inside the studio
The collaboration came to light through a vlog by Cape Town musician and teacher Caleb Harley, who captured Forbes and Lucas wrapping up the session.
“It’s a very exciting project. If you had to tell me at the start of 2026, that I’d be working with Craig Lucas and Tony Forbes, I can assure you that I would not have believed you… While I was rehearsing these two gentlemen proactively finished their parts of the job, and as for laying down the cords, we already know it’s ‘All Eyes on Me’.”
The news has sparked a wave of support from fans, who see this tribute as a way to keep AKA’s spirit alive.

Despite the excitement of the music, the pain of AKA’s absence remains heavy. Over the Easter weekend, Forbes shared a quiet moment at a memorial tree planted by family: “Thinking of you today. I feel you as I stand next to the tree aunty Lesley, Candice, Mona and Pa planted for you. You are always near in our hearts. We miss you. Kiss Ma and Pa for me. ❤️❤️❤️.”
