IDAC head, Adv. Andrea Johnson, is expected to testify before the Madlanga Commission on Monday over claims that she protected suspended Crime Intelligence Major General Feroz Khan from prosecution.

Johnson’s appearance comes after witnesses made allegations that have placed the anti-corruption unit under intense scrutiny and raised questions about its independence and handling of high-profile investigations.

The commission has heard claims that Johnson allegedly interfered in the investigation into an assault case involving Khan. Retired Hawks investigator Colonel Kobus Roelofse told the inquiry he was informed that Johnson instructed investigators not to pursue certain aspects of the case, fuelling allegations that the investigation may have been improperly influenced.

Johnson is expected to respond to those allegations, as well as other claims that have emerged during the commission’s hearings.

The inquiry has also received evidence from Witnesses N and O, whose testimony focuses on IDAC’s conduct and its handling of investigations linked to Crime Intelligence.

Parts of their evidence were heard behind closed doors after the commission ruled that public proceedings could compromise ongoing investigations and the safety of those involved.

The witnesses are expected to make further allegations relating to the handling of sensitive criminal complaints and claims of interference in investigations.

Senior investigator Brian Padayachee is also expected to testify later this week as the commission continues examining allegations surrounding IDAC’s conduct and decision-making.
