Kaizer Chiefs had an eventful team-building exercise during Heritage Month, embracing various South African cultures through clothing, music, and food at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena.
The team, coaches, and staff – most notably chairman Kaizer Motaung and sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. – took part in the proceedings. Interestingly, no one was assigned a specific culture or tradition to represent.
The notable cultures embraced through traditional attire were Siswati, Sepedi, Sesotho, IsiZulu, and Tshivenda. There may have been more, as snippets only surfaced on social media fan pages rather than the club’s official platforms, with the club preferring “to keep the event internal”.
The team-building exercise could prove beneficial for Chiefs. While it served as downtime during the Fifa international break, it offered a valuable opportunity for the squad and staff to bond and strengthen relationships away from the pitch, stadium, and training ground.
Chiefs have had a decent start to the season, with their only notable setback being a first-round exit in the MTN8 quarter-finals. Their season could be even better were it not for defensive mistakes in the Betway Premiership, though they remain unbeaten in the league.
Some Chiefs’ players also enjoyed downtime with their families during the mini-break. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was supported by his teammates during his Umembeso in KZN, while defender Inácio Miguel and striker Flavio Silva were on island escapes with their families.
The return of club football in the coming weeks will demand significant mental fortitude, particularly as they begin their continental campaign against African Arrows in the two-legged qualifiers for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Coach Fernando da Cruz, who participated in the proceedings at the Village, will hope the spirit of togetherness persists within the club until the end of the season as they strive to achieve their targets.
