Food lovers can start the month at the Durban Street Food Festival, which returns to the Pavilion Shopping Centre from September 4 to 6.
Taking place at Entrance 5, the festival promises a mix of street food, live entertainment, local and national acts, family activities and food vendors. Organisers describe the 2026 edition as a three-day celebration featuring everything from African and Indian classics to Asian-inspired street food and gourmet bites.
Liquideep in the Park takes over Chris Saunders Park in Umhlanga
Running from 12pm to 7pm, the event offers a Sunday afternoon of music in an outdoor setting.

September 6: WOA iQembu Cycle Challenge
For those who prefer an active start to the month, the WOA iQembu Cycle Challenge takes place on September 6.
The race starts at 7am, with the route taking cyclists along the M4 Highway. The start and finish area is near Kings Park Swimming Pool and Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Tickets range from R150 to R200, making it one of the more affordable cultural outings on the September calendar.

Heritage Day will be one of the busiest days on the KZN events calendar, with music, festivals and international sport taking place across the province.

Dolosfees
Richards Bay will be buzzing over the Heritage Day weekend as Dolosfees returns from September 24 to 26.
The festival will feature artists including Prime Circle, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Fatman, Tino, ANGUS and the Saxby Twins, alongside cultural performances, food, stalls, a beauty pageant, art activities and entertainment for children.

Featuring Kelvin Momo, the event starts from 12pm, giving festival-goers another option for the Heritage Month weekend.
Maskandi fans can head to the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast for the sixth annual Ugu Maskandi Festival at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.
The festival opens its gates at 12pm, with performances starting from 2pm. The event celebrates Maskandi music and the cultural traditions associated with the genre.
The lineup includes artists such as Sjava, Mafikizolo, Mbuzeni, Ntencane, Phuzekhemisi and Mjolisi, among others. Organisers are expecting thousands of music fans to attend.
