It’s almost time to ring in the New Year, and as per the long-running tradition, fireworks will safely be going off at various locations across the country.

With the restrictions around fireworks and if you have pets, you might not want to set them up in their private residence. But worry not, as you can watch the fireworks displays at these venues.

Cape Town

The V&A Waterfront will be having a safe, thoughtfully planned 5-minute fireworks display, which has been designed to minimise any impact on marine life, pets, and wildlife.

One can enjoy a full view of the firework display from various points at the V&A Waterfront with screens in the Amphitheatre, Alfred Square, and Nobel Square.

If you only want to see the midnight moment, grab a spot on the Croquet Lawn, from the Cape Wheel, on a charter boat, or at Radisson Red. The fireworks display can be enjoyed from Signal Hill, Mouille Point, Blaauberg Beach, Green Point, throughout the City Bowl, and Lovers Lane (Durbanville).

Durban

Durban Tourism will be hosting a spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks display at North Beach and Bay of Plenty Piers.

Polokwane

Perere Polokwane will be hosting The All Black Crossover, where patrons can witness a massive fireworks display.

The public is reminded that fireworks in the country are controlled under the Explosives Act, 1956 (Act No 26 of 1956). Various municipalities have bylaws that restrict and give guidance about the use or discharge of fireworks.

The public is reminded of the importance of applying precautionary measures and safety tips when discharging any fireworks to ensure their general safety.
