South African music producer Prince Kaybee has made it clear that, despite amapiano’s phenomenal success, he has no plans to venture into the genre.
The award-winning producer shared his thoughts on X, after a fan, Zeus Masimula, suggested that he collaborate with acclaimed amapiano producer Kelvin Momo.
Responding to the suggestion, Kaybee praised the genre’s achievements but admitted it is not something he sees himself creating.
“Amapiano has achieved impressive success with amazing talent, but I would never do it. I don’t know how to and I sadly don’t have the desire to.”
His comments quickly sparked debate on social media, with users divided over whether he should embrace the country’s most successful music export.
Some argued that he was missing out on lucrative opportunities.
User @Roxman999 wrote: “You’re leaving money on the table. Personally, I would ditch the pride and make the money.”
@ntulinincl encouraged the producer to reconsider, saying: “That has been my problem with pre-piano DJs. Somehow they don’t want to do anything piano. It’s a South African sound for goodness sake! Why not make a song on it? Yes, it would mean a lot, KB, to us.”
@JomoJomo117415, suggested there was room for collaboration despite the stylistic differences.
“Surely you guys can find a common ground. It’s all electronic dance music at the end of the day.”
Others defended Kaybee’s decision to remain true to his musical identity.

As speculation grew that the producer disliked amapiano, Kaybee clarified that this was not the case.
He explained that he enjoys listening to the genre but simply does not believe he has the talent or passion to create it.
