Fans of the musical sequel “Wicked: For Good” are deeply disappointed by its complete snub at the 2026 Oscars.
The film, which features Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, surprisingly failed to receive a single nomination. This outcome stands in stark contrast to its predecessor, which garnered ten nominations and won two awards in 2025.
Particularly shocking was the snub of its two leading actresses, who also received no award nods.
Fans were disappointed with the results of this year’s Hollywood Oscars, especially after celebrating the success of the two-part musical film, “Wicked”. While the first part enjoyed its moment, the second instalment, “Wicked: For Good”, received no nominations.
A particular snub that angered fans was the omission of Ariana Grande, who many expected to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress. The final list for that category included Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for “Sentimental Value,” Amy Madigan for “Weapons,” Wunmi Mosaku for “Sinners,” and Teyana Taylor for “One Battle After Another”.
Nothing at all from the worldwide-loved musical, including the costumes, the music and the roles of actors. Nothing at all.
The film’s failure to receive a nomination this year can be attributed to several factors, according to critics. Primarily, the second instalment was perceived as a continuation of the first, which had already enjoyed its moment of success and critical acclaim.
Furthermore, the second part offered minimal change in costuming compared to the first. In the initial film, Grande’s performance as Glinda garnered significant attention and was considered her “golden moment.”
Ultimately, the second part simply failed to surpass the impact and quality of the first, a sentiment reflected in its poor reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The lack of nominations for the film this year sparked debate on Twitter.
One fan, @jadeflamingo83, voiced a critique regarding one of the leads, stating, “To be honest, especially in the case of Ariana Grande, it’s unfair for her to be nominated again for playing the same role. It’s someone else’s turn, and the Supporting Actress category is pretty fierce this year.”
Other users noted the common difficulty sequels face with the Academy. LaTecia_Thomas commented, “Surprising, but not shocking, sequels always face an uphill battle with the Academy”.
The disappointment was evident for some, even if the film wasn’t as well-received as its predecessor. TheDisneyNerdYT remarked, “Even though it wasn’t as good as the first, the fact it didn’t get a single nom is devastating.”
