Some of the biggest names in the podcasting world are up for a shiny new trophy.

The Golden Globes are not just about movies and television anymore; they’re making room for all the amazing stories being told through podcasts.

For the first time, the awards have introduced an award for Best Podcast, which will be presented at the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony in January.

Among the top contenders are popular podcasts like “Call Her Daddy”, “SmartLess”, “The Joe Rogan Experience”, “The Mel Robbins Podcast” and “Good Hang with Amy Poehler“.

Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” is currently the most listened to podcast by women. It focuses on interviews with celebrities, athletes and authors, amongst others, and covers diverse topics from relationships and sex to personal growth and trauma, which is often discussed in a humorous way.

Some of the podcast’s most notable guests included former vice president Kamala Harris, popstar Miley Cyrus, rapper Cardi B and Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber.

Meanwhile, Joe Rogan’s podcast saw icons like Lionel Richie and Elon Musk.

These podcasts, which have captivated listeners by sharing intriguing stories and discussions, will be shortlisted to 6, and the final nominees will be revealed on December 8, along with the other nominees of film and TV.

Helen Hoehne, the president of the Golden Globe Awards, said: “This year’s inaugural list of eligible programs for the new Best Podcast eligibility list reflects the incredible depth, diversity and creativity thriving in the podcasting world today.

“From groundbreaking investigative series to deeply personal storytelling and innovative audio formats, this list showcases the power of podcasting to inform, entertain, and inspire audiences around the globe. The Golden Globes is proud to be the first major entertainment award to recognise this medium.”

This groundbreaking step to honour podcasts  joins the ranks of other awards that focus on digital content, like the Webby Awards, Peabody Awards and the Ambies.
