A man accused of supplying firearms allegedly used to kill rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane has challenged evidence about where one of the weapons was allegedly found when he was arrested.
Siyanda Eddie Myeza disputed the claim that the firearm was found at his waist the Mercury reported, arguing that this would have been impossible because he was wearing a cast that extended from his ankle to his groin.
The evidence emerged in the Durban High Court on Thursday as Advocate Simphiwe Mlotshwa, representing Myeza, cross-examined a member of the South African Police Service Tactical Response Team (TRT) about his client’s arrest and the alleged recovery of the firearm.
Myeza is alleged to have supplied firearms used in the murders of Forbes and Motsoane, who were shot dead on Florida Road in Durban in February 2023.
He was arrested by TRT members on April 10, 2023, about two months after the murders, following information from the crime intelligence unit that he was allegedly in possession of a firearm.
The firearm allegedly recovered from Myeza had previously been used in a shooting in Mayville in 2022 and is alleged to have later been used in the murders of Forbes and Motsoane.
The TRT officer told the court that her unit had been asked by crime intelligence to assist in acting on information that Myeza was in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
She said a colleague searched Myeza while she monitored the situation to ensure there was no disturbance.
Myeza’s defence is challenging aspects of the State’s account of the search and alleged firearm recovery.
The murder trial continues.
