AmaZulu seek to end Galaxy hoodoo as six-game losing streak looms

AmaZulu FC will walk onto the Moses Mabhida Stadium pitch on Sunday afternoon knowing that form and league position offer no guarantees when familiar opponents arrive with history firmly on their side.

Kick-off is set for 3:30 pm, and once again TS Galaxy stand between Usuthu and the chance to finally break a run that has become increasingly uncomfortable.

Galaxy make the short trip to Durban carrying a statistic AmaZulu would rather forget — five consecutive victories over the KwaZulu-Natal side in recent meetings.

Sunday’s encounter is therefore about more than points. It is about rewriting a narrative that has repeatedly tilted in the visitors’ favour, regardless of venue or circumstance.

From a broader perspective, AmaZulu’s season suggests a club moving in the right direction. Arthur Zwane’s side currently sit sixth on the Betway Premiership standings with 24 points from fourteen matches, a return built on seven wins, three draws and four defeats.

With fifteen goals scored and just twelve conceded, Usuthu have combined restraint with efficiency, particularly against opponents who are willing to play on the front foot.

Their recent form offers further encouragement. AmaZulu have won three of their last five matches across all competitions, suffering only two defeats.

Their most recent outing, a narrow away win over Golden Arrows before the break, highlighted Zwane’s growing imprint — compact lines, patience without the ball and ruthless execution when chances present themselves.

That discipline has been especially evident in Durban. AmaZulu have won five of their six home league fixtures this season, losing only once, turning home matches into controlled affairs where space is limited and mistakes are punished.

Even though the clash has been moved to Moses Mabhida, Usuthu will expect to carry that same authority into Sunday’s contest.

Standing in their way is a Galaxy side that has quietly become something of a nemesis. Adnan Beganović’s men sit fifth on the table, level on 24 points with AmaZulu but marginally ahead on goal difference.

They have scored twenty goals this season, underlining their attacking threat, and arrive buoyed by a convincing 2–0 home win over Marumo Gallants in midweek.

Galaxy’s challenge has been consistency away from home. Their away record of two wins, two draws and four defeats exposes vulnerabilities, particularly against teams comfortable sitting deep and breaking quickly.

Beganović prefers control through possession and midfield dominance, but that approach has often been tested once Galaxy are drawn into transition-heavy contests.

Still, recent head-to-head history cannot be ignored. Galaxy have won four of the last five meetings, including a decisive victory in their most recent clash.

Each encounter has added weight to a trend AmaZulu are desperate to arrest.

For Zwane and his players, Sunday represents a measuring stick. Ending Galaxy’s dominance would reinforce their strong home form and validate the progress made this season.

Failing to do so would serve as another reminder that growth in the Betway Premiership is as much about conquering old obstacles as it is climbing the table.
