ANC calls on Finance Minister to speak to SARB to not raise interest rates

The ANC has called on Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, to speak to the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) to deal with inflation without raising interest rates.
This comes as the Sarb Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meets this week to decide on interest rates.
According to ANC’s General-Secretary, Fikile Mbalula, the National Executive Committee is concerned over the impact rising interest rates have on economic growth.

COCT sees nearly 50% increase in impounded vehicles year on year 

The City of Cape Town’s Law enforcement and Traffic Services have seen an increase of nearly 50 percent of impounded vehicles year on year. Public transport vehicles are impounded in terms of legislation, where drivers are unable to produce a valid operating licence, or are found to be operating contrary to the conditions of their operating licence.

More hot temperatures recorded in Europe 

Southern and eastern Europe is expected to get even hotter this week, with 46C forecast in Sardinia. In Greece, 1,200 children were evacuated from holiday camps as wildfires broke out, while Italian authorities have issued red alerts for 16 cities.
