ROLLING BLACKOUTS CONTINUES THIS WEEK….
Eskom says Stage 3 and 4 loadshedding will be implemented until Thursday.
The power utility says it is still experiencing constraints from its diesel suppliers.
Eskom spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha, says some generation units have returned to service but it is necessary to continue loadshedding to conserve emergency generation reserves.

WESTERN CAPE GOVERNMENT PUTS PLANS IN PLACE TO GIVE RESIDENTS A ‘BREATHER’
The Western Cape Government says it will ensure that plans are in place to ease stages of loadshedding in the City of Cape Town. This comes as the country is again gripped by various stages of rolling blackouts as Eskom struggles to keep the lights on. Western Cape local government’s Anton Bredell says the shift to lower stages of loadshedding for City residents will give people a breather.

POWERCUTS TO BE WITH US FOR SOME TIME – PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA
President Cyril Ramaphosa is admitting that power cuts will be with us for a while yet.
Ramaphosa was speaking through his weekly newsletter. The president says the immediate goal is to reduce the frequency and severity of rolling blackouts.

PRESIDENTIAL YOUTH EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVE OFFICIALLY OPENS PHASE FOUR OF APPLICATIONS
The applications for phase four of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative has officially opened.
The applications will be open from today and close on October 16th. The Department of Basic Education’s media liaison officer, Terence Khala, reminds applicants that no applications will be available at the schools.

RUSSIAN SOLDIERS WHO SURRENDER WILL BE TREATED IN A CIVILISED MANNER – ZELENSKY
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Russian soldiers who surrender to Ukraine will be treated in a “civilised manner”.
In his nightly address, Zelensky appealed to Russians to run away or surrender once at the front.
It comes after Vladimir Putin signed a law doubling the punishment for Russian soldiers who desert or disobey orders.
Fresh protests have also broken out over Russia’s partial mobilisation of 300,000 extra troops.

FORGOTTEN POWERBALL TICKET IS A $50,000 WINNER
A Missouri woman said she was shocked when a Powerball ticket that was forgotten in her purse for over a month turned out to be a $50,000 winner.
The woman said it wasn’t until she visited a store to check a different Powerball ticket that she found the forgotten slip of paper in her purse and decided to scan it. She said some of the money will go toward paying off her student loans.
