On April 27, Time Out Market Cape Town will turn the V&A Waterfront into a lively stage for RARE, a special pop-up that highlights South African fashion, craft and street culture.
From 1pm to 5pm on Freedom Day, the Dry Dock will showcase local style and creativity, giving Cape Town vendors a big chance to grow their brands in front of visitors from around the world.
The RARE experience isn’t just another market; it’s a strategic move for independent designers to tap into the high-footfall energy of one of the city’s premier food and culture hubs.
With the iconic Table Mountain as a backdrop, the event features a heavy-hitting lineup including WAG, Nje Clothing, TGCG, Malaville, Romi Frida Flores, Twists and Knots, King on Horses, and Queen of Steel.
These brands represent the soul of the city’s lifestyle: bold, transcendent and unapologetically local.
For vendors, this is a significant opportunity: it’s the first of six planned markets designed to foster community and help emerging creatives gain recognition.
“You’ll be able to browse one-of-a-kind pieces, discover emerging creatives, and enjoy the buzzing Freedom Day energy,” share organisers, highlighting the mix of live art and shopping.
Capetonian vendors in the art, craft and fashion sectors are invited to claim their space in this movement.
To join the April roster, email sivu.nobongoza@timeout.com by COB on Monday, April 13. Whether you’re a local looking for “the look” or a creator ready to level up, RARE is where the city’s heart beats this long weekend.
For the vendors
Curation is king: This isn’t a flea market; it’s an exhibition, so include a link to your Instagram portfolio or a high-res lookbook.
Curators are seeking a cohesive aesthetic that aligns with the brand.
The Freedom Day edge
Consider a small, exclusive Freedom Day product or a “Market-only” discount. It creates urgency for the thousands of tourists and locals walking the V&A Waterfront on that day.

Remember, this is the first of six. Even if you aren’t ready for April, attending this one to scout the setup is a strategic move for your future applications.
