The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said first responders and police were called to the area after reports that a toddler had gone missing while playing with friends.

According to the NSRI, children who had been with the toddler told rescuers that the child had fallen into a pond of water at a storm water reservoir before disappearing.

Rescue teams, assisted by municipal officials, deployed water extrication pumps to drain the pond.

The child’s body was later located in the water. He was declared dead at the scene.
