Charges against Crime Intelligence Head Lieutenant- General Dumisani Khumalo and six others have been withdrawn.

The accused appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.

*This is a developing story*

The case, which began with arrests in June 2025, centres on allegations of fraud and corruption surrounding Mokwele’s appointment as brigadier.

The accused have denied wrongdoing, while serious questions have since emerged over the investigation that led to their prosecution.

The planned withdrawal follows revelations at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that the investigation was incomplete.

Earlier on NPA head Andy Mothibi announced that the charges would be dropped.

The allegations against Khumalo included claims that he manipulated recruitment procedures, bypassed mandatory vetting, and failed to secure required top-secret security clearances.

Prosecutors also accused him of mismanaging secret intelligence funds linked to the unit and appointments.

However, it emerged at the Madlanga Commission that this was all a plot to remove them from office.
