Media personality Bridget Masinga has called out Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and the City of Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero over the ongoing water crisis in the city.
Masinga recently spoke out on X about how Johannesburg has gone days without a single drop of water. She stressed how unreasonable it is that municipal bills are still expected to be paid in full while the water crisis persists.
“Hey @Lesufi and @DadaMorero Day 9 zero water. Not a drop. But my rates must be paid in full and on time, right?!?” she wrote.
This is not the first time that Masinga has taken a jab at Lesufi. She previously took a shot at him on X on February 22, after the premier said he, too, faces water shortages and sometimes books in at a hotel and showers.
“People think that if there is no water, us, our families, we’ve got special water, we don’t. I mean, in some instances, I had to go to a certain hotel so that I could bathe and go to my commitments,” said Lesufi.
The premier commented during a media briefing earlier this month. Lesufi’s comment sparked public backlash, with some residents describing his remarks as insensitive.
Masinga also previously fired a sarcastic comment at Lesufi, suggesting the premier could sponsor a hotel room for her family too.
“Morning @Lesufi waking up to day two of 100% zero water, after a week of daily interrupted water supply. But hey, maybe you can sponsor my household a room for a shower at Monty since my baby and I have commitments today? Whilst you’re at it she needs water for formula too,” she said.
Premier Lesufi later apologised to the public, stating that his hotel comment may have been misinterpreted, however some opposing political parties have not taken kindly to the apology.
Lesufi has recently announced that a R760 million infrastructure investment upgrade is underway in the city of Johannesburg to address ongoing water issues.
Lesufi announced this during his State of the Province Address (SOPA) at the Nasrec Expo Centre on Monday.
“To permanently resolve these issues, a R760 million massive infrastructure investment upgrade is underway in COJ over a phased approach,” he said.
