In a startling development, CBS has terminated the contract of seasoned South African journalist Debora Patta after she had a contentious interaction with US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee.

This comes after Huckabee said the interview he held in early August 2025 with Patta was heavily edited and misrepresented his views on the situation in Gaza.

Following the interview, Huckabee went on X and asserted that CBS News intentionally manipulated the four-minute segment to produce a narrative that diverged from his actual comments. He insisted that his comments on reports of starvation in Gaza were misrepresented.

“Ever wonder how the media edits an interview to give you a different story than the one they had?” he wrote.

In an attempt to clarify his position, he linked the full transcript of the interview hosted on the US embassy’s website, drawing attention to what he argued were critical points omitted from the final broadcast.

New York Post added that Patta signed a three-year contract with CBS in August, and it’s alleged the broadcaster won’t give her a full pay out. It was further added that the former eNCA journalist consulting her lawyers.

The publication reported that CBS News President Tom Cibrowski orchestrated approximately 100 job cuts, which included Patta’s departure. Sources suggest these cuts may be linked to the network’s new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, who is recognised for her strong pro-Israel stance.

Patta, 61, has been with the TV station for over a decade and worked as a Senior Foreign Correspondent.
