Controversial media personality and musician Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, is expected to return to the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Jub Jub faces charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object likely to cause a person to believe it was a firearm.

He was arrested after an incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale on June 14.

It is alleged Jub Jub accused the e-hailing driver of being in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend after she was dropped off at a residence in Edenvale.

According to police, the matter escalated when Jub Jub allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving.

During the incident, Jub Jub reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter.

Following his arrest, Jub Jub brought an urgent application before the Johannesburg High Court, raising concerns over the delay in his appearance before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and seeking bail pending his first court appearance.

The High Court granted the application June 16 and ordered his release on R5,000 bail.

The Uyajola 9/9 presenter is no stranger to the legal system.

In 2012, he was convicted for his role in a crash that claimed the lives of four schoolchildren. More recently, in 2024, charges of rape, attempted murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were withdrawn against him.
