Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere died from a fentanyl-laced cocktail of drugs, according to a US coroner.
Panettiere, 36, died on August 16 at an apartment where she was staying with her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson.
IOL previously reported at the time of the star’s death that emergency medical services were called to the property following a report of a possible overdose.
Panettiere was reportedly in cardiac arrest when emergency responders arrived. CPR was performed, but she was pronounced dead at 2.32pm.
According to US media, forensic tests revealed toxic traces of fentanyl and a generic form of Xanax.
Reports state that the investigation has now shifted to where the 36-year-old got the drugs from.
Authorities are also reportedly investigating a long-time drug dealer in Los Angeles who allegedly supplied Panettiere with prescription medication obtained on the black market.
Investigators are attempting to determine the source of the pill and establish what medication Panettiere had taken before her death.
Panettiere is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, whom she shares with former heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko.
