Devotees mark the start of sacred Purattasi month

Devotees gathered at the temple as South Indian Hindus began observing Purattasi, a month associated with prayer, fasting and devotion to Lord Venkateswara.

The month long fast will be observed from September 18 to October 17 – a sacred period dedicated principally to Lord Venkateswara, also affectionately known as Balaji, Srinivasa, or Govinda.

Draelin Mandhiri, 11, D’Angelo Pillay, 6, Sruthi Raju, 6, and Darsh Raju, 12, at the Siva Sathi Alyam, in Chatsworth, for the start of the month long fast.
