South African DJ and award-winning producer DJ Chymamusique has expressed gratitude to fellow DJ and music producer Shimza, for his donation towards his back-a-buddy campaign.
Collen Mmotla, better known as Chymamusique, recently shared that he underwent emergency brain surgery, a craniotomy, following a horrific collision in Polokwane on August 30 that claimed five lives, including that of his friend and fellow musician DJ Poizen.
His fans and supporters have opened their hearts and wallets and have rallied behind him to help cover the costs of ongoing medical treatment, through his Back-A-Buddy initiative.
Shimza, real name Ashley Raphala, donated R92 000.
“Ashley Raphala took it to 100% “1 man show” 🫂Monthly liabilities off my shoulders until end of Jan, chance to heal 🙏🏾. God indeed used people , motho ke motho ka batho,” tweeted Chymamusique.
The Back-A-Buddy campaign has achieved R211 479 surpassing its goal of R200 000.
Chymamusique’s recovery has been intensive and costly and to also raise funds, the DJ has put several high-value belongings up for sale, including a Mercedes-Benz C63, motorbikes and DJ equipment.
Another public figure that has supported Chymamusique is Kaya 959 radio host Sizwe Dhlomo, who bought the CDJ 3000 and V10 mixer, he was selling.
Chymamusique survived a car crash that claimed the life of fellow DJ Poizen on August 30.
The two were travelling together when the accident happened, leaving Chymamusique in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The news sent shockwaves through the South African music industry, with colleagues and fans rallying behind him as he began his long road to recovery.
In early September, he shared that he had undergone four successful surgeries, with one more procedure pending. He thanked his supporters for their prayers, kindness and patience, expressing hope that he would return to music once his body allowed.
Since then, Chymamusique has been recovering at home and attending physiotherapy sessions to regain his strength and mobility.
