October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to reflect, support, and take action in the fight against cancer. At the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), we are reminded every day of the critical role blood and platelet donations play in helping patients on their treatment journeys.
Many cancer patients rely on blood and platelet transfusions as part of their treatment. These donations help restore strength, improve recovery and most importantly, give hope. Each unit of blood or platelets donated is not just a medical product, it is a lifeline, a message of compassion, and a reminder that together, we can make a difference.

To everyone fighting cancer – you are warriors of unimaginable strength. We honour your courage, stand with you in your battle, and hold space for every journey, every scar, every story. Most importantly, we call on South Africans to join hands in saving lives by donating blood and platelets.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, give hope. Donate blood. Be the reason someone gets to fight another day.
