A 36-year-old man has been arrested in Gauteng after he allegedly shot and killed a 42-year-old resident of Mmadiga Village, Ga-Dikgale, in Limpopo.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said the shooting happened in the early hours of 2 November 2025. The victim was taken to Mankweng Hospital with gunshot wounds shortly after midnight, but was declared dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had been walking with a friend when a vehicle approached and slowed down beside them.

The occupants of the vehicle allegedly hurled insults at the pair. When the men who were walking did not respond, a passenger from the car allegedly opened fire, hitting the 42-year-old man before the vehicle sped off.

Police recovered spent cartridges at the scene.

A murder case was opened and investigators worked to track down the suspect. The breakthrough came on Friday when the alleged killer was traced to Gauteng and arrested. Police also recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 8 December, on a charge of murder.

Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the team’s swift work and said the recovery of the firearm underscored the SAPS’s commitment to removing dangerous criminals and illegal weapons from communities.
