Moffie

This play tells the story of Nicholas van der Swart, a 17-year-old conscript in 1979 who is sent to serve in the South African Defence Force during the Border War.

While he faces the harsh realities of army life, he also keeps his sexuality a secret, as it could put him in danger.

Based on André Carl van der Merwe’s novel and adapted for the stage by Philip Rademeyer, the play explores identity, shame and survival in a system built on fear and control. David Viviers plays Nicholas under the direction of Greg Karvellas.
