KAIZER Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz lamented the four points they dropped in their opening four-match block, as it has left them chasing rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
Chiefs play their fifth league match of the season when they host Siwelele at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The match kicks off at 5.30.
This is a match they must win if they are to remain part of the leading pack and on the heels of Pirates and Sundowns, who have shown that it will take something special to remove them from first and second position respectively.
“When we play games, we always want to win. At this stage (four games into the season), normally we would have 12 points, but in the last two games we lost four valuable points because we played (drew) against Mamelodi Sundowns and Richards Bay. So we lost four points, but we could have won those games,” Da Cruz told the media on Wednesday.
Chiefs play their home games at FNB Stadium, but this weekend they will temporarily relocate to Dobsonville Stadium because of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Test match between the world champion Springboks and their old foes, the All Blacks, on Saturday afternoon.
Da Cruz is not overly concerned about the change of venue, focusing instead on their performance for the afternoon.
After all, Chiefs are at home in any stadium around the country, as they always claim the lion’s share of stadium attendance. As a result, they have at least three other home grounds across the country.
“We’ll train at the stadium in the afternoon to feel the grass, get a feel for the environment and feel the size, but it is not a main priority for us. The main priority for us is to focus on our performance and our mandate,” said Da Cruz.
