Right now, Kaizer Chiefs co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef are the new “master chefs”, and they are serving humble pie on silver platters to all their critics.

The “Translators” — as they have been dubbed due to their initial roles at Amakhosi as assistants to the sacked Nasreddine Nabi — will be looking for their fifth straight Betway Premiership win when they visit struggling Magesi FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

Kick-off is at 7.30pm.

After 23 games, Magesi are facing relegation, as they currently anchor the bottom of the table with only 17 points. Given that Chiefs’ “purple patch” was topped off over the weekend by the rare feat of beating their bogey side, TS Galaxy, 2-0 — courtesy of their imports Flavio Da Silva and Glody Lilepo, a fifth straight win is looking set on the cards for the Phefeni Glamour Boys.

Their victory over Galaxy also saw them surpass the 40-point mark for the first time since the 2022/23 season, in which they amassed 44 points after 30 matches.

They are now on 42 points. A win for Chiefs against Dikwena Tsa Meetse could also bring them closer to a 66-point finish by the end of the campaign, provided they win all their remaining eight games.

It remains a pity, however, that this run of form comes after Amakhosi have been knocked out of all three cup competitions and lost significant ground to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in the title race.

With their newfound form, they will be looking at a third-place finish — which would guarantee them continental football — with genuine optimism.

One can only wonder if that will be enough to influence the Chiefs management to retain the “Translators” for next season.
