The National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has dismissed reports claiming that the head of Crime Intelligence Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, has been arrested.
In a brief statement issued on Thursday, IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said reports suggesting that General Khumalo had been taken into custody were inaccurate.
“The NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption takes note of the media reports on the arrest of the Head of Crime Intelligence General Dumisani Khumalo,” read the statement.
Mamothame said the directorate wished to “set the record straight”, emphasising that no arrest had been effected against General Khumalo or any members of crime intelligence.
“We wish to set the record straight that General Khumalo has not been arrested nor has anyone else from Crime Intelligence,” Mamothame said.
The statement comes after eNCA reported that Khumalo had been arrested.
The broadcaster reported that Khumalo was being processed at a police station in Pretoria. It was further said that Khumalo’s lawyer was at the police station.
I was said that the charges were unclear.
