Political firebrand Fadiel Adams is set to face the Madlanga Commission on August 11 over alleged leaked intelligence documents, state secrets and claims of corruption erupts into the public spotlight.

The appearance was confirmed on Friday by party spokesperson Jeremy Michaels, who said Adams had been formally served with a Rule 3 notice requiring him to testify before the inquiry.

Adams’ testimony comes after explosive claims made at the commission by KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused him of obtaining and circulating sensitive Crime Intelligence documents.

This is despite him not being a member of Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence.

Mkhwanazi alleged that Adams handled the material recklessly and used the documents to launch criminal complaints involving alleged manipulation of police vetting processes and the misuse of secret intelligence funds.

Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head, Advocate Andrea Johnson, also told the commission that Adams could potentially face criminal investigation over his possession of classified or sensitive Crime Intelligence documents.

According to Johnson, the documents were allegedly delivered to his parliamentary office.

Adams has strongly rejected the allegations, insisting the documents were anonymously placed in his office and that he acted in the public interest by exposing possible wrongdoing.

He has accused the commission of unfair treatment and claimed his right to respond was undermined.

Adams is out on R10,000 bail on charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice.

Police said he was arrested two months ago on allegations that he interfered with ongoing investigations into the murder of the late ANC Youth League leader, Mr Sindiso Magaqa.

Investigators had found that Adams allegedly interfered with a convicted hitman at a sensitive and advanced stage of the probe.
