Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef lamented the fact that his side has a real problem scoring goals, following his side’s goalless Betway Premiership draw with Chippa United at New Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The draw meant Chiefs missed the chance to rise to third on the table, and instead are fifth on 23 points after 12 matches.
For Chippa, the point at home was not particularly helpful as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table on nine points after 15 games.
Youssef said he would employ a systematic approach to fixing the problem.
Youssef emphasised Individual Work and Decision-Making After Chiefs’ Missed Opportunities
“For us, as a coach, you have to continue with the individual work. We have to continue working; that’s our job to fix our mistakes. Finally, it’s the job of the players to find the right solutions,” Youssef told SuperSport after the match.
“To find the right decision in the last third for us, we continue to work and want to improve our performance from the last game.”
Chiefs did have a number of chances during the contest, and the fact they did not convert was clearly frustrating for Youssef.
“For us, I think we do not have an excuse. We had a lot of opportunities. Now we are [spent] a big time in the last third, and you don’t score. That’s the big problem. We have to continue to work.
“When you get a six-metre opportunity one-v-one, you don’t score. That’s football. We have to continue to work; we have to correct the same problem.
Chiefs are next in action against TS Galaxy in Mbombela on Sunday.
