Kaizer Chiefs could be set to swoop in and sign Asanele Velebayi after the player was declared a free agent.

It’s believed that Chiefs have been trying to sign the 22-year-old midfielder for some time and 19-year-old teammate Luke Baartman

The problem, though, was that a Cape Town Spurs player was bound to the club, and they did not intend to sell him.

However, since the club was relegated to a non-professional league, it was argued in court proceedings that he should no longer be bound to Spurs.

Velebayi Declared Free Agent by PSL DRC: Urgent Ruling Allows New Club Move

In those proceedings in the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Chamber, it was ruled that Velebayi would be free to join a new club.

“The application is heard on an urgent basis in terms of clause 45.5,” a ruling delivered and signed by PSL DRC’s chairperson, Mosupi Mashele, stated.

“The applicant is declared a free agent. The counter-application is dismissed since the applicant succeeded.”

Kaizer Chiefs Secure 2-0 Victory Over Stellenbosch FC in Betway Premiership Opener

Like a year ago, Kaizer Chiefs once more won their opening Betway Premiership clash of the season as hopes for the Soweto Giants soared over the weekend.

In their trip to Athlone Stadium on Sunday evening, their hosts Stellenbosch FC were dealt a critical blow inside the first quarter hour mark as Siviwe Nkwali was red-carded for a foul on Chiefs’ Mduduzi Shabalala just outside the box.

The resultant free-kick was expertly taken by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who made it 1-0.

The scoreline would remain for the rest of the contest until added time when Chiefs were awarded a penalty, in what would have been the final move of the game. Glody Lilepo stepped up and converted from the spot to seal a 2-0 scoreline.
