Former SA tennis star Kevin Anderson has revealed that a relative of his died following an attack in his home in South Africa.

Though Anderson did not say where the attack occurred, he shared some details of the incident through a BackaBuddy link.

The attack took place on April 4, in which Anderson’s cousin Bruce Franck was “brutally attacked in his home in South Africa. Despite the extraordinary efforts of the medical team caring for him in intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries on April 16th.”

The BackaBuddy campaign aims to raise R750,000 for the family of Franck, and was already close to 75% of the target on Tuesday.

Fundraiser Set Up for Family After Tragic Loss

“A few days ago, our family experienced something devastating. My cousin Bruce was attacked in his home and did not survive. He leaves behind his two children, Alex and Savannah,” said Anderson on Facebook.

“Bruce was very dear to me. One of my strongest memories is having him there during my run to the finals at Wimbledon. I’ll always carry that with me.”

The 39-year-old Anderson, who reached a career high of fifth on the ATP rankings, hoped he could help raise funds for the family of Franck.

“Several of you have asked if there is any way to help. A fundraiser has been set up to support Alex and Savannah as they navigate what comes next. If you’re able to contribute or share, it would mean a great deal to our family.
