LIVE | Madlanga Commission probes Feroz Khan’s R39m property portfolio and 30 vehicles

Madlanga Commission has turned its attention to the unexplained wealth of Deputy Crime Intel. head, Feroz Khan, with financial records and WhatsApp messages presented as evidence raising questions about his lavish lifestyle.

Evidence leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson continued leading testimony before the commission on Tuesday after it emerged on Monday that Khan allegedly lived far beyond the means of his police salary.

The commission heard evidence against Khan in his absence as he remains in hospital after being shot multiple times in a suspected assassination attempt in June.

Financial disclosure records presented to the commission show Khan purchased 30 vehicles in a single year.

The records also indicate he owns a car parts business that generates an estimated R3 million in annual income.

Khan is estimated to own a property portfolio valued at approximately R39 million, with luxury homes in George, Houghton and Umhlanga.

The portfolio, according to evidence leaders, reflected a top cop who lived way beyond their means.

Evidence leader Adv. Adila Hassim said the scale of Khan’s declared wealth was troubling, particularly as the commission has heard allegations linking him to a scheme to manipulate a South African Police Service tender for the supply of vehicle parts.

“The problem rather is that General Khan is a senior Crime Intelligence officer and he was earning two-and-a-half times more a year than his public salary in his own disclosures,” Hassim told the commission.

The inquiry is underway.
