Mamelodi Sundowns completed their title-winning campaign with a 2-0 win over Magesi, in a rousing coronation to end their Betway Premiership season at Loftus Versfeld, in Pretoria, on Sunday evening.

Lucas Ribeiro notched up a brace inside the first 25 minutes, and that would be enough for Sundowns to bring down the curtain in fine style of their eighth league title-winning season in a row.

Sundowns were in complete control against the visitors, with 12 shots at goal to the single attempt of Magesi. Sundowns also enjoyed the lion’s share of possession with 82% of the ball.

For Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso, it was the final exclamation point on another dominant season.

Mamelodi Sundowns Coach Cardoso Reflects on Team’s Record Conquest

“The smiles and energy is obviously the sense of the job done, obviously let’s say. At the same time, it’s an expression of the values we have in the locker room of the family that we build. Of the energy we have amongst us and make us always be ambitious, ambitious, ambitious,” Cardoso told SuperSport after the game.

“I told you that we needed to have a group of character today and that’s what the boys did. To play a beautiful game, make a result and enjoy a smile and that’s what they did.

“Maybe if they could’ve gone for more goals, but they enjoyed touching the ball that’s the nature of the club, this team, that’s the quality of these boys and also what I love so much.

“So, I’m a coach that’s very pleased to be a Mamelodi Sundowns coach and to represent all the Masandawana family and be the head of this group of men and they are really a great group of men. Otherwise, they would not be champions for so many years in a row.”
