A 26-year-old man was killed, and two other people were targeted in a shooting at a pharmacy in Qumbu, Eastern Cape, prompting a murder and attempted murder investigation by police.
According to police, the shooting took place at a pharmacy in the Sejoseng Business Centre on Saturday, June 13.
Officers were called to the scene at about 11.20 am following reports of an active shooting at the premises.
When police arrived, they found the 26-year-old man dead behind the pharmacy counter. Two other people survived the attack.
One sustained injuries to the lower body and was taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the other was not physically injured.
Police said it is alleged the three victims went to the pharmacy to buy masks. As they attempted to enter the premises, gunfire broke out.
The victims reportedly took cover inside the pharmacy, but the shooting continued before the suspect or suspects fled the scene.
Police said nothing was stolen from either the victims or the pharmacy.
Crime scene investigators recovered multiple rifle cartridges, projectiles and sealed bullets during their examination of the scene.
The motive for the shooting has not yet been established. No arrests have been made, and the suspects remain unidentified.
Police in Qumbu are investigating one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
