Moozlie reminisces about iconic ‘V-Entertainment’, fans demand its return

Rapper and TV personality Nomuzi Mabena, affectionately known as “Moozlie”, has called for the return of the once beloved entertainment magazine show “V-Entertainment”.

Following a mini reunion that took place during the DStv 30th anniversary shoot, Mabena took to her Instagram to reminisce about the iconic days of the show that became South Africa’s pop-culture staple. 

She posted a series of pictures posing with the show’s former presenters, including Dineo Moeketsi-Langa, Denise Zimba and Nonhle Thema.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but… BRING BACK ‘V-ENTERTAINMENT’!!! Because man… What a time!” she wrote.

One of the pictures that she shared was that of her co-hosts Shane Eagle, Zulu Makhathini, Lalla Hirayama and DJ Speedsta.

The Benoni-born presenter joined the Vuzu TV show in 2016 after leaving “MTV Base”. 

She, along with many former presenters, raised the bar for all things pop culture – a move both fans and industry peers widely applaud.

At its peak, “V-Entertainment” sat at the centre of the culture.

It was the blueprint that shaped what entertainment reporting looked like in South Africa and set the pace for how presenters carried themselves on screen.

The show made pop culture feel exciting, and it created a space where young talent could grow into household names.

Many of today’s leading presenters either came from Vuzu or were heavily influenced by the energy that “V-Entertainment” introduced.

Fans of the show have often taken to social media over the years to reminisce on the nostalgia, saying that the show left a gap that has never been replaced. 

Many agreed that nothing on TV today has matched the energy, pace and personality that “V-Entertainment” had.

“’V-Entertainment’ and Scoop Makhathini really carried the South African hip hop culture on their backs, and I think that’s exactly what’s missing at the moment. There needs to be something or someone pushing it to the people because there’s so much beautiful music going under-appreciated,” said X user @Nkosanism.

Another fan, @KatahKing, said: “I miss the V-Entertainment days with Scoop, Shelton Forbes, Lala, Sammy Sosa, Moozlie, Dash, Speedsta and Shane Eagle.” 

With “Top Billing” making a return to South African screens, other fans have wished for the same fate for “V-Entertainment”. 

“’Top Billing’ came back, now we just need Vuzu or ‘V-Entertainment’ to do a return. Who would be the presenters, I wonder,” said @_Forty_K.

The iconic show first aired in September 2011 with a one-hour special when production closed in June 2017.
